Why On Demand Courses?

As a reading teacher, I am often asked by concerned parents, "what can we do at home?" In those moments, I wish I could transfer my knowledge to them because it's not so much a certain activity, but rather certain language and procedures. For example, how to help your child sound out words with their fingers. These videos are meant for you to watch with your child, so you can learn strategies to use when you read and spell together. Another benefit to digital courses is that you can go at your own pace and rewatch as many times as you would like.

Is this course right for your child?

This course is designed for elementary students who are beginning to read and spell. It reviews foundational skills taught in kindergarten and first grade. There are ten video lessons that can be watched on demand and at your own pace. Each lesson includes a read aloud, phonological awareness activities, and direct instruction in reading and spelling. When your child finishes the course they will be a stronger and more confident reader with cues and strategies to use over and over again.

Targeted Skills

  • Reading and spelling words with short vowels, silent e, and digraphs

  • Differentiating between long and short vowel sounds

  • Phonological awareness skills (including rhyming, syllable segmentation, phoneme blending, phoneme segmentation, and phoneme isolation). These skills are often overlooked, but they are critical for reading success.
